Question: How do I download
resources from this site?
Answer:
It is possible to simply click the name of the resource,
using your mouse and cursor, as shown on the right. This will open
the item on your own PC, using the appropriate software application.
For example, clicking a Word file (any file with
an extension of .doc) will open the file in your own copy of Microsoft
Word (if you have it). If you click a PDF file (with an extension
of .pdf) this will open in your own copy of Acrobat Reader, and
so on.
However,
we recommend that you use the 'right click' method of saving copies
of these resources on your own PC, where you can then open, print
and amend them as required.
Instead of clicking the name of the resource with
your normal left mouse button, simply use the right
button. This will bring up a sub-menu as shown left.
Choose the 'Save Target As...' menu option.
You will then be prompted for a location on your
own PC where you would like to save a copy of the resource. This
is your own copy of the resource, so you can do
whatever you like with it - rest assured that you are not making
changes to the 'live' version on this web site.
Remember, that we recommend the 'right click' method
of saving copies of the resources on this web site. It's easy once
you know how!
Question: What format are the
resources on this site?
Answer: The resources will generally
consist of one of the following formats: MS Word files (.doc), MS
Excel spreadsheet files (.xls), MS PowerPoint presentation files
(.ppt), MS Publisher files (.pub), Clicker 3 and 4 grids (.clk),
Portable Document Format files (.pdf) and Photograph files (.jpg).
Word: Where possible, these have been saved
as Word 97 format, which should be suitable to open in Word 97,
Word 2000 and Word XP and greater.
Excel: Where possible, these have been
saved as Excel 97 format, which should be suitable to open in Excel
97, Excel 2000 and Excel XP and greater.
PowerPoint: The version of PowerPoint is
indicated. As a rule this is PowerPoint 2000, and these files should
also open without problems in PowerPoint XP and greater. If you
have PowerPoint 97 then some files may open, but it is not guaranteed.
Publisher: Where possible, these have been
saved as Publisher 98 format, which should be suitable to open in
Publisher 98, Publisher 2000 and greater. Occasionally formatting
problems may occur when you open a file in a different version to
that in which it was created.
Clicker 3 and 4 files: The version is indicated.
There is every possibility that both versions will open if you use
Clicker 4. We cannot guarantee the results if you use Clicker 3
and open a Clicker 4 file.
PDF files: These documents should open
in any recent version of Acrobat Reader. However, we suggest that
you use Versions 5 or 6 or greater. The latest version of Acrobat
Reader can be downloaded here.
